On February 21. 2010, Serena Scott Thomas, actress and real estate agent, will be running her first marathon in Pasadena, California. At 48yrs old, she is undertaking a 26.2-mile feat that involves extreme physical exertion and months of strenuous training. Serena has generously offered to devote her first run to the Maximum Hope Foundation. All proceeds from the race will go directly and immediately to the Davis family, one of Maximum Hope’s most pressing cases.
There are three children in the Davis family, two are severely disabled. Ciera (3 ½) and C.J. (2 ½) are fighting for their lives with various undiagnosed disorders. Both children endure over 200 seizures a day and are unable to sit, crawl or talk.
Both Ciera and C.J. rely on surgically implanted feeding tubes to meet their nutritional needs.
The Davis family needs immediate help. Mr. Davis is unemployed and unable to find work. Their 18year old son is CPR certified in order to help his parents provide care for his brother and sister. Ciera and C.J. require constant oversight, attention, and care which keeps the family by their sides constantly.
Ciera and C.J. are still confined to their cribs, which are becoming a danger to them as their legs often get caught between the bars. They are in desperate need of special safety beds that cost over $5,000 each, their insurance will not cover the cost
“ At 48, I’m a bit nervous about running my first 26.2 miler, but I believe that the knowledge that I’m doing it for the families of terminally ill children will give me courage and strength to complete it. I’ve always wondered how people push their bodies to run so far and now, I’m about to find out! After this, my next goal will be 50 Kilometers… Thank You Maximum Hope for giving me this opportunity and thank you all for your generous contributions.”
Our mission at the Maximum Hope Foundation is to provide immediate assistance to families faced with the unforeseen realities of caring for a terminally ill child. We are asking that you support Serena as she meets one of the greatest challenges of her life. Because of your generosity, we are able to immediately help Ciera and C.J., and relieve some financial pressures from the Davis family. Go Serena!!
All donations supporting Serena's first marathon will go to the Davis Family to assist in the purchase of the special safety beds.
Ciera and CJ safe and sound.Serena's Marathon Update
Our most heartfelt thank you to Serena Scott Thomas. Not only did Serena successfully complete her first marathon, she raised enough money to purchase medical safety beds for our Maximum Hope kids, Ciera and CJ Davis.
The Maximum Hope Foundation would like to extend our deepest thanks to Amy Faircloth for her unending support for families in desperate need of help. Maximum Hope and Latasia joined forces this year and Amy has quickly become an integral part of our support system. In addition to sponsoring The Latasia Fashion Show 2009, in which a portion of ticket sales will be put to work immediately helping families with critically ill children, Amy has also turned our attention to J. J is a beautiful young girl living in North Carolina diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare cancer found in the bone or soft-tissue of the body. Upon learning about J, MHF was able to immediately provide groceries and household necessities for her over-whelmed, single mother. We are happy to report that as of October 2009, J is cancer-free. Amy Faircloth is a Latasia Sapphire Director but to the Maximum Hope Foundation she is our most valuable precious diamond.
Amy says of her motivations and inspirations to host the Latasia Fashion Show 2009:
"(I am) blessed to be a part of a wonderful company called Latasia; a company that teamed up with a charitable organization we all feel passionate about: Maximum Hope. By sharing our stories about these children the Maximum Hope can and has helped, we All can make a difference."
Vinnie Tortorich, Ultra cyclist and leukemia survivor is back on his bike again this year for the Furnace Creek 508. Known as "The Toughest 48hrs in Sport", it is the worlds premier ultramarathon bicycle race. This non-stop, 508-mile race is revered the world over for its epic mountain climbs, stark desert scenery, desolate roads, and it's reputation as one of the toughest but most gratifying endurance challenges available, bar none. The course has a total elevation gain of over 35,000 feet, crosses ten mountain passes, and stretches from Santa Clarita acoss the Mojave Desert, through Death Valley, to Twentynine Palms.
We applaud Vinnie for his strength and determination in this incredible undertaking, and are immensely grateful to him for donating all proceeds from this race to the Maximum Hope Foundation for the second consecutive year.
